Introduction
Arthematics brings
together an unexpected combination of artists and media with the intention
of provoking a reflection about human versatility and means of expression.
Art and Math, the dual aspect of Arthematics, hopes to create a dialogue among the
spectator, mathematicians, and artists via an exploration of identities.
At a first glance one can say that Arthematics is an exhibit of works with mathematical
themes on one hand, and works inspired in nature and everyday life on the
other. Interestingly, about half of the pieces displayed in Arthematics were created by mathematicians and the
other half are contributions by our non-mathematician friends. As you walk and look at the works, try to
guess whether the artist is a mathematician or not. You might be
surprised.
The variety of contributions –
photography, painting, origami, textile, ceramics, large prints and jewelry
– are
a celebration of diversity and friendship.
Arthematics is
organized by Zdenka Kali and Ana Lorena Hart.
Sponsored by AWSM, Arkansas Women in Statistics and
Mathematics.
