Hello
This is a abridged biography, and general cover letter.
Objective
Hello,
I am a fifth year architecture student at the University of Arkansas. As I approach the end of my academic career, I have begun to think about the next step in my career as an architect. I am seeking an intern or student intern position with a firm that participates in the IDP program.
Experience
Working as a carpenter, I have spent the majority of my life in the construction industry. I was taught in a union apprenticeship program, working my way to journeyman, and finally master carpenter. Later, I traveled the United States working as an independent contractor and hourly employee, becoming familiar in residential and commercial construction techniques that respond to the unique climatic and geophysical zones in our country. Moving to Arkansas, I found employment as a construction supervisor. Supervising crews of 20 to 50 crew members and subcontractors through multi-million dollar contracts. During periods of inclimate weather, I assisted in the bidding of large contracts, and alone, I bid smaller jobs. At a premature age, I began to feel the onset of some arthritis, and decided to return to school.Education
At the University of Arkansas’ School of Architecture, my focus has been urban design and issues concerning sustainable design. When I was a carpenter, I took pride in my work and my craft; my education has turned my love of building into an obsession of design. During my time at school, I have become semi-profficient in the digital arts. I can program in C, C++, and HTML. I am proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I have become very familiar with Autodesk AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop2007, and VIZ; Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Indesign. I have a new Revit program I am currently investigating. This year my goal is to become an expert at all of these applications and pass the LEED exam.Feel free to contact me.
I am not an ordinary architecture student. For one thing, I am a bit older than my fellow students at the university. My experience has given me the ability to make mature decisions, a capacity for leadership, and a work ethic not found in the average student. If you haven’t done so already, please take a look at my portfolio. Feel free to contact me. I will make references available upon request. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.Sincerely; William BrittVisitor Counter
