Research Experience for Undergraduates Summer Research Program 2006

The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas is proud to sponsor a National Science Foundation supported REU summer research program for the 17th consecutive year.

The Program

The 8 - 10 week summer program allows undergraduate geosciences (geology, earth science, physical geography) majors, who will be juniors or seniors in fall 2006, to carry out field and laboratory research in a chosen research area, including:

  • Hydrology and Watershed Sciences
  • Quaternary Fluvial Studies
  • GPS Geodesy
  • GIS and Remote Sensing Applications
  • Limnology and Geophysics

Participants will present the results of their summer projects at the conclusion of the program.

Program Dates - to be arranged with individual faculty mentors coincident with field research activities.

College Credit   Those selected will be enrolled as students at the University of Arkansas and will receive 1 hour of research credit. All privileges normally enjoyed by UA students will be extended to summer REU students.

Scholarships  Both dormitory and off-campus housing is available. Participants will receive a scholarship of up to $4400. Housing costs will be paid from the scholarship amount.

Conference Allowance $330 in travel support will be given for each participant to attend a national or regional geosciences conference in the 2005 - 2006 academic year. 

Application deadline  March 31, 2006. Applicants will be notified of selection to participate April 7, 2006.
