Graduate students in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Arkansas are supported either on Research Assistantships provided by grants to individual faculty members, or on a departmental teaching assistantship. The University of Arkansas also offers a number of excellent fellowship options for outstanding graduate applicants, which you can learn about here. The availability of these support slots is flexible and difficult to predict from semester to semester. Acceptance to the program is competitive, with applicants ranked by factors such as GPA, GRE scores, previous research experience, and letters of recommendation. I recommend that interested prospective graduate students visit our graduate recruitment web page (http://biology.uark.edu/1248.htm) and read about entrance requirements and programmatic expectations. Everything you need to know about the application process can be found on that page. If you think you would like to apply, send me (Steve Beaupre) a copy of your resume or academic CV and let’s discuss it. I would particularly like to hear about your research interests and plans for PhD studies. Please be persistent and patient, because they keep me busy here and I can’t always respond with rapidity.
