Identification, Biology and Management of Insects Attacking Vegetables in Arkansas

Acknowledgments

The University of Arkansas has maintained a research program on insect pests of vegetables for the past 24 years and prior to this period vegetable insect research was conducted on an as needed basis since the early 1900's.  The durability of this program has been greatly impacted by the support of the vegetable industry within Arkansas. Much recent credit is due to Allen Canning Company and their support personnel. Mr. William Russell, currently an Allen employee and a graduate of the University of Arkansas, has provided many observations used in this website and continually assisted in location of vegetable fields for insect sampling and for field studies. Other companies that have provided assistance during the past two decades include Razorback Farms and Del Monte. Studies have been conducted in countless producer’s fields located in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. It is difficult to list all the names of these many helpful producers but three who deserve special thanks are Gloria and Lonnie Pruett, Sardis, AR, and Kip Cullers, Stark City, MO.  Many students and staff of the University of Arkansas have provided much assistance. The author is especially indebted to his wife, Lou, for her support and assistance with this manuscript.
