Graduate Research Assistantships

Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) are available starting Spring or Fall 2009 for students who are interested in pursue Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering (MEEG) or Microelectronics-Photonics (MicroEP) Program at the University of Arkansas. Research will be in the area of Nano-surface-engineering, Micro/Nanotribology, and Nanomechanics using advanced fabrication and characterization techniques.

People with M.S. or B.S degrees in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science are encouraged to apply for the GRAs. Qualifications include having strong interest in scientific research, good academic standing, and excellent communication skills. Detailed information on the application requirements can be found from the MEEG website or the MicroEP website. The following are the minimum requirements:

GPA: 3.0/4.0 overall; 3.2/4.0 on the last 60 hr technical courses (undergraduate courses)
GPA: 3.0/4.0 (graduate courses)
TOEFL: 600 (paper-based)/250(computer-based)/100 (internet-based)
GRE score is required for applicants admitted with a BS or MS degree in a field other than mechanical engineering

Prospective students are also encouraged to apply for Teaching Assistantships in Mechanical Engineering. Exceptional Ph.D. students will also be eligible for the Four Year Ph.D. Fellowships in Mechanical Engineering, or MicroEP Graduate Program Walton Fellowships.
