Background and Interests
Matthew T. Feldner, Ph.D., received his master’s degree
from West Virginia University in 2001 and his doctoral degree from the
University of Vermont in 2005. He completed his clinical internship at
the Dartmouth Medical School in a specialized track focused on posttraumatic
stress disorder via work at the National Center for Posttraumatic Stress
Disorder. He currently is an Associate Professor in the Clinical Psychology
program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Arkansas.
The overall aim of Dr. Feldner’s research program is to increase
understanding of the development, prevention, and treatment of panic disorder,
posttraumatic stress disorder, and the common overlap between drug use
behavior and these conditions. To this end, he continues to systematically
examine in the laboratory context specific factors that are implicated
in the development and/or maintenance of these conditions and integrate
these findings into the development of novel prevention and treatment
protocols (see Representative Publications).
Dr. Feldner has received extramural funding from the Arkansas Biosciences
Institute, National Institutes of Health, the Anxiety Disorders Association
of America, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department
of Defense, to support portions of this research program, and an active
emphasis on obtaining such funding is continuously maintained. A focus
on training also is explicitly fostered throughout activities in Dr. Feldner’s
laboratory at both the graduate and undergraduate levels (see Teaching
Philosophy). In terms of teaching, he currently teaches the graduate
level Introduction to Clinical Science and Introduction to Clinical Practice
courses. He also provides clinical supervision to graduate students in
the Clinical Psychology program.
