History
Gamma Chi Zeta has had a long history on the University of Arkansas campus. Theta Phi Delta was founded at the University of Arkansas , November 1, 1923, by Garland Stubblefield and Phil Deal. It was chartered as a Zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha on May 24, 1925. In 1939 Theta Kappa Nu merged with Lambda Chi Alpha both nationally and at the University of Arkansas .
Lambda Chi Alpha enjoyed 77 years of success at the University of Arkansas until it was put under Alumni Board of Control and was closed in late August of 2000. The reason for the closure was lack of success in the area of recruitment. The chapter was disbanded and the national fraternity revoked all fraternal privileges to the members that ultimately caused the chapter to fall.
In the fall of 2002 the national fraternity, with the help of local alumni, sent ELCs (Educational Leadership Consultants) to the University of Arkansas to organize a re-colonization. Through a very in depth interview process, the first founding fathers were selected and Associated to Lambda Chi Alpha Gamma Chi Zeta. It has now been over two years and those first members and the members they have recruited thereafter have organized the fraternity into what it is today.
Creed
We believe in Lambda Chi Alpha , and its traditions, principles, and ideals. The crescent is our symbol—pure, high, and ever growing; and the cross is our guide—denoting service, sacrifice, and even suffering and humiliation before the world, bravely endured if need be, in following that ideal.
May we have faith in Lambda Chi Alpha and passion for its welfare. May we have hope for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha and strength to fight for its teachings. May we have pure hearts, that we may approach the ideal of perfect brotherly love.
