next to night

falling light
As the edge of the world falls away
to dark, our eyes fill with waning light
that shines more lovely being less
but being next to night.

Light that falls as the tide of day
recedes to bare a lightless shore
shines brighter for being less,
so being cherished more.

Our light falls at the end of day
but shines life at the heart of death
and if anything shines at the fall of night
it shines with falling light.
