Biography Jessica Nolan was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. At an early age she was interested in environmental protection and loved to study any form of plant and animal life in her backyard and neighborhood . She attributes her love of nature to numerous family outings to natural areas such as Candlewood Lake in CT, and Hunter and Bear Mountains in NY. She graduated from the Bronx H.S. of Science in 1994. At Bronx Science she took a class in Urban Ecology and was active with the student earth day organization. She went on to get her B.S. in Natural Resources from Cornell University and graduated with distinction in 1998. She spent 6 months in Quito, Ecuador where she studied and volunteered through the Partnership for Service Learning. Atfer graduating, she worked for four years in the solid waste management field as a recycling outreach and education specialist for the Cambridge Recycling Program in MA. She served as the acting director of the recycling program until deciding to return to school to pursue a Master's degree in Psychology. For her Master's thesis she worked with Dr. Wesley Schultz at California State University, San Marcos. Her Master's thesis on home energy conservation was part of a million dollar grant from the Hewlett Packard Foundation. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Experimental Psychology at the University of Arkansas, where she is a Distinguished Doctoral Fellow. Research Interests Jessica's research interests revolve around the application of psycholgy to understand and solve environmental problems. She has studied the effects of normative information on various environmental behaviors, including energy conservation and household recycling. She is also interested in environmental justice and understading environmental protection within a social dilemma paradigm. |
