A brief history

Every year the department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Arkansas hosts a conference called the Spring Lectures Series in the Mathematical Sciences. These annual conferences focus on topics that are at the forefront of current international research while being related to the research activity within the department. Thanks to the continued support through the years, this series of conferences has grown into a very effective vehicle for the dissemination of information concerning research in mathematics and a forum for the discussion of new open problems. Through accessible and enlightening public lectures, the Spring Lecture Series is developing a reputation in the wider community as an exciting outreach program. The series has been running since 1977, and a brief history of the series can be seen at http://www.uark.edu/depts/mathinfo/activities/SpringLecture.html

In recent years the Series has been honored to have researchers of the caliber of David Donoho, Emmanuel Candes, Andrew Casson, Michael Christ, Carlos Kenig, Luis Caffarelli, John Milnor, Efim Zelmanov, Cameron Gordon, Nigel Kalton and Jerrold Marsden, who acted as Principal Lecturers.
