From the Editor

As we gear up for another FSAE™ season, SAE welcomes back our students, faculty advisors, sponsors, and interested parties. Now that midterms are over, it’s time to begin working on your FSAE™ project. Good luck and we are looking forward to another terrific FSAE™ season, and we hope that all of you are, too.

1999 FSAE™ Dates

The 19th annual Formula SAE® Competition is tentatively scheduled for May 19-23, 1999. We are happy to announce that the competition will remain at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan. Registration will be open from 2 - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19. Late registration will open Thursday morning at 6:30 a.m. We suggest that teams register on Wednesday. Thursday morning can be hectic and you don’t want to miss an event due to not being registered.

The design event is scheduled for Thursday, May 20 (as are the cost and presentation events). Teams will receive their randomly assigned time slots when they register on-site. Design semi-finals will take place Thursday evening at approximately 6:30 p.m., and design finals are scheduled Sunday morning prior to the banquet. There will be a seminar immediately following the finals with Carroll Smith as the featured speaker.

All schedule changes will appear in future newsletters.

A special thanks goes out to West Virginia University for getting their registration in immediately after receiving their rules. WVU along with University of Washington are gearing up for another Formula SAE® season by getting a jump on the other teams and registering early. Car numbers 1-10 are reserved for the top finishers of last year’s competition. Requests for car numbers will be filled on a “first come, first serve basis.” No car numbers will be reserved until the registration form and payment have been received by SAE, so hurry and get your checks in the mail today!

Does your Team Want to Earn CA$H?

The FSAE™ Event Coordination Team wants you to join our team. We need a reliable labor force for the set-up and tear down of the FSAE™ Event Site. Set-up will begin on Tuesday, May 18 and run through May 19 or 20. Tear down will begin Sunday, May 23 and run through May 24 or 25.
