Axial Displacement Function (u)

Linear Polynomial

The axial displacement (u) within each element is described by a linear displacement function. The 2 constant terms (ao and a1) of the linear function allow for the inclusion of the two degrees of freedom for the element (an axial displacement at each node). The constant term (ao) of the linear equation represents the axial displacement at the node closest to the origin.
