Project Information

DEVELOPMENT

This Web site was created by three undergraduate students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), with the intent of providing applications based linear algebra modules for both student and practicing engineers. The work was done as an Interactive Qualifying Project, (IQP) which satisfies a portion of the degree requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at WPI. The project was advised by Professors Joseph J. Rencis and Zhikun Hou, both of WPI's Mechanical Engineering Department. The project is valued as the equivalent of one fourth of an academic year's credit. This project however is just a sub-section of a much larger body of work currently being undertaken in cooperation between several academic institutions . The project called Finite Element Method Universal Resource (FEMur) is being constructed to introduce and teach concepts in finite element method with an applications based curriculum. The linear algebra site and other such sites provide background information needed to pursue more advanced topics.
