I am Meenakshi from India. I was born and brought up in Delhi, the capital city of India. Delhi is a place rich with culture, architecture and human diversity. Delhi can be divided into Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi, The capital of Muslin India is full of formidable mosques, monuments and forts. It is a lively area of colorful bazaars. New Delhi, the imperial city created by the British is composed of government buildings.

My native language is Hindi, the National language of India. Today India has 18 officially spoken recognized languages. People in different cities speak different languages but Hindi is the most commonly spoken language in India.

India is a secular country so one can follow any religion he or she wants. Here you will find people from different religions: Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism , Jewish faith and many more. When in India, you can travel to the holy places of the different religions and cultures of India.

Favorite festival:
We celebrate different festivals in India. The one I like most is Diwali or Deepawali. The word Deepawali literally means rows of Diyas (clay lamps). It is a festiva of lights symbolizing the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness. Family members and relatives gather to offer prayers, distribute sweets and to light up their homes.

My hobbies include reading (about great people and the history of different countries and places), music and traveling. But I am passionate about Indian Classical Dance …Bharatnatyam. This dance is a blend of rhythm, melody and emotions, which is devotional in spirit, highly stylized and sophisticated in its technique.
