Nicaragua is
located in the heart of Central America. It borders on Honduras to the
north and Costa Rica to the south. Its western coastline is on the Pacific
Ocean, while the east side of the country is on the Caribbean Sea. It
is also the biggest country in Central America with an area of 49,998
sq mi (129,494 sq km) and 7 million people. The fist language spoken here
is Spanish, but also English is spoken in the Atlantic Coast or Miskito
Area. Regarding religion, the majority of Nicaraguans are nominally Roman
Catholic.

Nicaragua is hot with an average temperature of 82º F year round
and there are two seasons, rainy and dry. The hottest time of year is
from February to May, when temperature often reaches towards 100ºF
and days can be windy.

Nicaragua's economy has historically been based on the export of cash
crops such as bananas, coffee and tobacco, moreover, Nicaragua's small
industrial sector has consisted primarily of food processing, except for
one cement plant and one petroleum refinery.

Hobbies: Since Nicaragua has 2 big lakes, many lagoons and volcanoes,
people here practice a variety of sports related with water as sport fishing,
scuba diving, sailing
and surfing. Also, in order to enjoy volcano sceneries you can go hiking

between 3 and 30 meters height above the ground, from where you will appreciate
nature from a different perspective.

Favorite holiday: The favorite holiday is THE PATRON SAINT FESTIVAL which
is a religious celebration that includes a solemn mass celebrated by the
town’s priest.

During the veneration of the image,
the people offer flowers and “pay” for their promises with
small gold and silver objects, and with clusters of fruit hung on an arbor.
The food and the music are essential elements of these events.

in which the main ingredients are rice and black beans.

Also, corn is one of Nicaragua’s basic foods and a great portion
of the country’s culinary culture incorporates it as a single ingredient
or mixed with others. A great variety of foods, beverages, and sweets
made with corn are part of the Nicaraguan daily diet.
