My name is Janiva, I am from Hampden Lowlands, Tobago. I enjoy swimming, tennis, music, architecture and spending time on the beach with friends and family.

Trinidad and Tobago were originally populated by Amerindian tribes, the Caribs and Arawaks. More than 100 years ago large groups of Africans, East Indians, Chinese, Portuguese, Syrians, Spanish, Dutch, French and English came. Trinidad and Tobago now has a multitude of languages and dialects including Hindi, Spanish and Chinese. The national language is English, but most people speak English Lexicon Creole, an English dialect composed of multiple languages. Our people are very beautiful, and many of us represent multiple ethnicities.

This dress is called a ‘Belé’ dress since it used to ‘Dance de Belé’. It is worn especially during the 2 week long ‘Tobago Heritage Festival’ when we celebrate our African and French heritage.
