2006 December 9: Saturnalia We initiated 20 students at our annual Saturnalia -- the largest group ever! Congratulations to all! [New initates, Photos] 2006 December 1: Prof. Lendon lecture postponed Due to inclement weather forecasts, Prof. Lendon's lecture "Explaining Change in Classical Antiquity: the Case of Land Warfare" has been postponed to the end of January. 2006 November 2-4: ESP at CAMWS-SS ESP hosted a panel of student papers at this year's CAMWS-SS, over which our chapter president presided. [Paper Abstracts] 2006 October 16: Guest Lecturer: Prof. Gregory Daugherty Dr. Daugherty, of Randolph-Macon College, presented two lectures: "Down and Out In Ancient Rome" and "The Greatest Story Ever Drawn: Cleopatra in American Comics". 2007 May 5: Members Initiated J P Huber, Amberlie Jones, Miranda Schreiber, John Scott, and Hudson Smith were initated at a party held at Jasmine Merced-Ownbey's house. [Photos] 2007 April 1: Jasmine Merced-Ownbey elected Megale Prytanis No, it's not an April Fool's joke. On April 1st, Jasmine Merced-Ownbey was elected by her peers as National President of Eta Sigma Phi, the first time a University of Arkansas student has ever held this office. [Photos] 2007 March 30-April 1: Eta Sigma Phi Convention Next year's convention will be held at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. The call for papers has been issued. To submit a paper, please contact your classics faculty advisor [Convention Info] 2007 March 6: Cattus Petasatus at Holt Middle School On March 3, 2007, Jasmine Merced-Ownbey and Alex Simpson went to Holt Middle School to read Cattus Petasatus (the Cat in the Hat in Latin) to the Gifted and Talented students. A hugely successful affair, the kids were not only introduced to Latin, but they were extremely enthusiastic and all tried their hand at reading it as well.
