Stream Live Video
Options for streaming live video are increasing. Not only can video be streamed, but clips can be saved and viewers can interact and provide feedback as the video streams. This creates an opportunity for viewers to communicate and collaborate. Imagine giving a classroom lecture where students can type in questions or discuss concepts.
Don't expect the video quality to be perfect, but the applications mentioned here are FREE, a hard price to beat.
- USTREAM (my top pick)
"Ustream's one-to-many live interactive video encourages broadcast-to-viewer and viewer-to-viewer interaction, empowering a much more engaging experience for everyone involved." This website has a more professional look; the interface is clean and easy to navigate. Videos can be streamed live and recorded for later playback. Again, there are many live radio broadcasts on this site, political and other organization streams, a smattering of wildlife cams, and a lot of personal feeds. There is a nice chat window, commenting feature, and the stream can be embedded into websites. This is a great feature for presenting conferences, class lectures, etc. without having to leave your site. - SelfCast
This free streaming video site includes a chat box and the ability to record, embed streaming video, and more. In my experience, the video quality has not been very good, but this may change. - Stickam
This website has been around for a while and the services have greatly improved. Expect a lot of personal sites, but don't let that scare you off. Several radion stations use this application to broadcast live. There is a chat area (requires membership) and clips can be saved for later viewing. I've used this as a pet cam in the past and it surprisingly remained connected the entire day with decent video quality. Stickam has a social networking feel to it, with friends lists, calendar, and friend updates.
