Grape Root Borer moths are flying in greater numbers per pheromone trap than in 2005. To assess percentage of vines in your vineyard with borers, you can look every other week and count the number of pupal skins on the soil around the trunks of 100 vines scattered throughout the vineyard. Normally we see less than 10% of vines with pupal skins. Click to see pupal skin
Green June beetle: Look for adult flight over pastures and flight into fruit plantings where adults will feed on ripening fruit.
Japanese beetle: Trap counts and plant feeding were low last week so we removed traps from the field in Arkansas. see JB Article in NW Arkansas Morning News for 8 June 2006 = Click page 1 and Click page 2
Grape Berry Moth hatch by county (adjusted again - cooled off):
DD = Graph for ape Girardeau Co.: 1st hatch = 10-28 May; 2nd hatch = 19 June to 7 July & 3rd by 17 July
DD = Graph for Crawford Co.: 1st hatch = 6-29 May; 2nd hatch = 18 June to 3 July & 3rd by 21 July
DD = Graph for Boone Co.: 1st hatch = 15-29 May; 2nd hatch = 21 June to 7 July & 3rd by 22 July
If > 1% damaged clusters (1 or more damaged berries on cluster) and larvae are present, apply insecticide to all of vineyard on 10 to 14 day interval until shortly before harvest.
Damage Sampling: Check 300 clusters in both edge and center for wormy or damaged berries (discolored, purple meandering tunnels just under skin). Collect damaged berries while inspecting clusters and then cut open berries to check for live larvae. If larvae present, it is probably time to apply another insecticide spray.
