NOTES ON
1964, A holiday on
the Isle of Wight

The
Isle of Wight was chalk cliffs, inlets with pubs and caves, neat places to hang
out. A human scale place, where you can
easily get from one side of the island to another. It has castles, and zoos, and of course Osborne House. And to cap it all, there was a rocket
testing facility at one end of the island that we stumbled upon by chance and I
was thrilled.
The zoo was famous recently because when “March of the Penguins” was popular one of the zoos penguins was stolen. It became a national obsession, but the animal was never found.
