Welcome to my General College physics class this summer. I'm kind of an old hand at it, having taught this course for 32 years at the City College of San Francisco as well as last summer here at my new home in Fayetteville. I'm really looking forward to teaching it again.

You should be pleased to learn that I continue to use a fine old textbook, Franklin Miller's College Physics 5th Edition. A new copy is available in the bookstore for less than a used copy of another textbook with a later copyright. Miller has an excellent problem set and was, when newly published, the standard book used at most schools. There are no colored pictures, but you can feel free to color it yourself. This might even be a book you decide to add to your library.

I see that the textbook is now in the University Bookstore and the price is about fifty dollars. There was only one used copy for about thirty dollars. The lab manual will not be available, however, before the first day of class. It will be sold, I'm told, at the "College Bookstore" on Dickson Street.

We will be covering as much material in as much depth this summer as is covered in a full year during the regular semester, so I hope you standing ready to clear the decks. Many of you will find this to be a difficult and enjoyable summer, although some may find it to be one without the other. Let us hope that, for you, it will be enjoyable.

I hope you find this website useful for preparing for this course. It is still as work in progress, so please check back next week. I look forward to meeting you face to face on July 3.
