Teaching German in Arkansas
If you are interested in teaching German in Arkansas, our AATG chapter has a few tips to offer.
First, as many opening become available suddenly and schools have difficulty finding replacements quickly, you should send a copy of your resume to each of the schools with German programs explaining that you would be available should they have an opening and requesting that they keep your resume on file.
Secondly, if you are not already certified, you should begin procuring your teaching license as soon as possible. Information on licensure in Arkansas can be found at:
http://www.teach-now.org/states/arkansas/frmNonTradLicProg.asp
http://arkedu.state.ar.us/teachers/licensure_mentoring.html#Traditional
It is a huge advantage if you have already started the alternative licensure program by the time you are looking for a job. Teachers in our chapter at the K-12 level recommend at least taking the Praxis I and II exams. You can also find information on scholarships available for foreign language teachers in Arkansas at:

Finally, the Arkansas chapter of the AATG has resolved to keep a list of qualified teachers with contact information available on our web-site. If you would like to be added to this list, please send a copy of your resume to the officers listed on the home page via e-mail.
