Resume Tips

The one page rule applies to all students and graduates until approx. 4-5 years after graduation at which time you may have acquired enough relevant experience to utilize two pages.

High school info may be included only before college graduation. Afterwards, only include your high school info if that school is private and well known, or has a strong alumni network.

The one minute test: a potential employer must be able to scan your resume in one minute and be left with a positive impression.


Education

Your education section should be in reverse chronological order.

GPA rule: If it is above a 3.0 list it, if not, don't.

If only your journalism GPA is above 3.0, list it.

Include major and minors. Even if you have not minored in an area but have taken several hours in it, list it as "focused studies in..."
